No Resolutions
Mon 1 Jan 2007Looking over last year’s New Year’s day post, I think I’m doing well. I did not get drunk and drunk-dial my mother, buy shitty 80s music on iTunes for New Year’s, or wake up with a hangover. I had a perfectly enjoyable couple of hours at Mo’s house instead, had fantastic Spanish food and a glass or two of sangria, then came home and rang in the New Year curled up in bed with cats, a good book, and a giant messy yummy ice cream sundae.
My resolutions last year were to buy a house, not kill myself, and not get married or have babies, all of which I accomplished. Apparently I do better when I set big-picture goals and don’t sweat the small stuff. (Plus, really, buying a house was a huge deal and all on its own was plenty of resolution for the year.)
This year I’m not doing resolutions at all, just coming up with a few things I hope will be true for 2007. I hope:
- I will find a new job I love, and make good progress building up my editing work on the side
- I’ll manage to time it so I can take about a month off between jobs in the spring, during which I hope to de-stress from my current job, make my garden beautiful, do a bit of traveling to see some old friends, and maybe even do something wild and crazy like take driving lessons
- Len’s studio will be finished and he’ll be able to start recording again
- Schroedinger’s auto-immune disease will stay under control and I’ll be able to ease back on his meds a bit
- My parents and sister will survive renting a house in Philly together (and will have a spare bedroom for me so I can come visit and see a certain adorable Philly baby I have not yet met)
If all those things happen, it will be a very good year, regardless of whether I manage to do more cooking or get in shape or whatever other random resolutions I usually make.
